This year, Boards Across Hermosa is being continued as an initiative of the Economic Development Action Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. However, the effort is being led by a few of us from the Leadership Hermosa Beach Class of 2022 project: Erika Langtieg Newman, Susan Casty, Kitty LaDoucy, and Tara McNamara. This program has been developed and is managed by the Chamber - Indivisible Arts is a partner in collaboration, but does not manage or run this project.

Artists will be paired with a local business who will host your art prominently during the city-wide installation. Based on feedback from the first round, we believe the most satisfying results for the buyer and the artist is for (Skate)boards Across Hermosa to be a fundraiser, while succeeding at growing the awareness for the local artists community. Therefore, the pay structure would be proceeds of the sale to be split evenly between the artist and Indivisible Arts, which is putting their efforts into using art to improve mental health for local youth. As a local 501(c)(3), Indivisible Arts works with Walk With Sally, Richstone, DaVinci/RISE, Friendship Foundation, and Beach Cities Health District to be on the front lines of the mental health crisis - making their impact through teaching art, creativity, and consciousness.

Your skateboard will need to be completed by Jan. 9 and be ready to be placed into the host business on Jan. 16 (or the week of). The auction will begin at that point and will be run entirely by Indivisible Arts. The exhibit will continue until March 18, with the boards being placed in Indivisible Arts for the State of the Art fundraising event at Resin. Similar to before, we may need to move them for an event or two to highlight this city-wide art installation.

We are planning on trying to source some used boards, (some of which may need to be sanded down before use by the artist depending). Let us know if you’d like this. Alternatively, it appears raw decks are around $20/ea on Amazon and may be well worth saving the effort of preparing a used surface.

That’s the breakdown. So, are you ready to ROLL?

FAQ’s: Boards Across Hermosa 2023

Who do I contact if I have any questions?

Tara McNamara, 310-486-6579, thatstaramc@gmail.com

How do I submit my board to be included?

Use this jotform link below:

https://form.jotform.com/223296608166159

How are you going to hang the boards? Do I need to attach anything or leave holes open?

Please keep the holes UNFILLED so that we can use zip tie and other methods to hang. When filling out jotform, please let us know if your board should be displayed horizontally or vertically. Please paint on the side of the skateboard that faces the ground.

What is the minimum bid for each board? Can I set my own minimum bid?

You can set your own minimum bid in your jotform submission. If you leave it blank, the suggested minimum bid of $150 will be used.

What percentage and when do artists get paid for their board if it sells at the auction?

Proceeds of the sale will be split evenly between the artist and Indivisible Arts, which is putting its efforts into using art to improve mental health for local youth. Any expenses incurred on behalf of the organizers to conduct and promote the event, will be averaged out and then deducted among all artists, and this reimbursement will occur first, and then the split will occur.

Where and what time do I drop off board?

The week of January 16 artists will be dropping off boards. Exact time and place info coming soon.

Will a placard with my name be shown with my board when it’s displayed?

Yes. The information from your jotform submission will be used to create a placard that will travel with your board wherever it goes.

How do I have my board included in social media posts by the organizer?

Please tag @boardacrosshermosa and use hashtag #boardsacrosshermosa when you post to your own account, so we can include you in our instagram stories. Also, for your best photos, please email them to francesca.k46@gmail.com along with your information, so we can post them too. Thanks!
